It's simple.

- If you want to use a regular flash, put the jumper.
- If you want to use a special flash like canon 580EX-II, remove the jumper to enable the fix.

I am using 580EX-II, do I need to put the jumper into the flash circuit? How can I know my flash should enable or disable this feature. Thank you.

Because some flash models like the canon EX580, don't drop the voltage after the flash is fired and this voltage blocks the thyristor after the first shoot. With the 10uF capacitor and 10K resistor, the flash is fully discharged after the shoot. The two jumpers near of the capacitor are used to turn on/off this fix for each flash. If the jumper is present, the fix is disabled. If no jumper is present, the fix is enabled.

The Arduino UNO R2 fix is the 1n4148 diode D1 in the schema. You don't need this fix if the Arduino UNO is the R3 revision or R1 revision.

Here is the fix tutorial for the old version of the photoduino shield. http://www.photoduino.com/blog/2011/09/how-to-fix-photoduino-to-work-with-arduino-uno-r2/
